My piece “Takin’ Honeysuckle Sips” featuring a white-lined sphinx moth with honeysuckle was accepted into the Pre-Farm to Table: a Bee’s work show, featuring pollinators which assist in food production!

The Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center presents Pre-Farm to Table: a Bee's Work. The exhibit speaks to the ecology of the farmer's helpers including bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other such pollinators. This exhibit shows in conjunction with "As the Bee Sees: A Pollinator’s Perspective" by Susan Curington.

Opening Reception is September 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Please join us for two pre-reception talks on September 6:

• 4:30 p.m. | “Bees – biology, threats and support” given by Dr. Priyadarshini Chakrabarti Basu. Dr. Priyadarshini Chakrabarti Basu is a Research Associate at the Honey Bee Lab, Oregon State University, headed by Dr. Ramesh Sagili. Priya’s chief focus lies in improving bee health by understanding bee nutrition, deciphering the impacts of pesticides on pollinators and investigating the synergistic detrimental impacts of other stressors (such as pests and pathogens) on honey bees. Priya employs various research techniques such as molecular ecology, neuroethology, insect physiology, ecotoxicology, mass spectrometry and apicultural practices to address her current research questions. • 5:00 p.m. | "As the Bee Sees; An Artist's Perspective" given by Susan Curington. Susan will explore our uniquely human ability to shift our perspective through imagination and empathy. She'll share about the current perils facing the bees, and therefore much of our food source. She'll share how she has learned from the bees how community can be sustaining, and has found resilience through creativity and small daily actions. View Susan Curington's biography.
